ABOUT OSCODA TOWNSHIP
The Charter Township of Oscoda, MI is seeking a full-time Assistant Township Manager. Oscoda Charter Township is a Lake Huron/AuSable River community in northeast Michigan (pop 7,200) with a tourism orientation along with signicant commercial activity on the former Wurtsmith AFB including a major Kalitta Air facility.
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Township Manager, the Assistant Township Manager provides executive-level administrative and operational support to the Township Manager and Board of Trustees, while also performing technical, systems, and process-oriented functions essential to the effective operation of the Township.
The position contributes to the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives; coordinates and monitors interdepartmental projects to ensure timely completion; manages research and analysis in support of policy development, budgeting, and operational improvements; participates in financial planning processes including budget preparation and compliance tracking; and attends in lieu of the Township Manager at meetings and community events as assigned or delegated.
Requirements
Administrative & Operational Support
Serve as a key liaison between the Township Manager, Board of Trustees, department heads, and external stakeholders.
Prepare and organize board meeting materials, including agendas, packets, resolutions, and presentations.
Assist in drafting policies, procedures, and strategic plans aligned with Township goals.
Coordinate interdepartmental projects, monitor timelines, and report progress to leadership.
Attends for the Township Manager at meetings, community events, and intergovernmental sessions as needed.
Financial & Compliance Support
Assist with annual budget preparation, financial analysis, and compliance tracking.
Conduct research and prepare reports on policy development and operational improvements.
Ensure adherence to state and local regulations, including public acts and township ordinances.
Information Technology Responsibilities
Act as the primary point of contact for IT-related issues within the Township offices.
Coordinate with IT provider, IT committee and vendors for system maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
Support implementation of new software solutions for document management, communication, and workflow automation.
Train staff on best practices to improve efficiency.
Other Duties
Provide after-hours support during board meetings and special events.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Township Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in public administration, Business Administration, or related fields.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in municipal administration or executive support.
- Strong knowledge of local government operations, policies, and compliance requirements.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with IT systems, networking basics, and cybersecurity principles.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Annual salary range is $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 (DOQIE). Competitive benefits.
